In A Word

Posted in ,

I have been a bit lax on my posting as of late, and for that I"m sorry. Things come up as we all know and we make room for them however we can.

So that said I figured that since I have gone sometimes a few days with no post and that's not really my nature, I would go ahead and throw a second one on today, just because somebody asked me an interesting question today and I want to share it. Let me say that it was interesting to me and all of you might not share that same interest.

Here goes...In a word describe what Christmas means to you. Not a paragraph or a sentence or a poem. He was absolutely specific when he asked me about this. And he wouldn't accept more than one word. He is doing this for a drawing that he is holding. Whomever gives his idea of the best one word answer will win a $100 gift certificate. I don't have any gift certificates to give out so I figured that I would change the rules a little teeny tiny bit.

I want a one word answer as well...The difference is I want an explanation for the answer, so if you have a few minutes ponder over it and tell me what you think...

I will share my answer somewhere in the comments :)

BTW guys thanks for reading some of this crapola that I post and thanks even more for responding to some of this crapola that I post. It makes me realize that a lot of us deal with the same well crapola and it's nice to see that I'm not alone in how I react to some of this.

That's hard!

My word would be music.

In my family, when we got together for Christmas there was always music. On my dad's side of the family it was guitars, fiddles and banjos. On my mom's it was pianos and organs. These days we don't really get together in a big group anymore, so now the music is provided by Bing and Nat and Johnny Mathis and Glen Campbell.

Reread my comment and I thought it was in very poor taste. Sorry about that. Below is the original comment, heavily edited.

One word: Believe

*snip*

The one thing I love more than anything about the holiday is the fact that little ones BELIEVE. That's what makes the holiday special to me.

Spencer

Christmas used ot mean nothing to me, as I am Jewish. Then I married my incredible husband who is COC and we started sharing each other's holidays with one another. After the birth of our child in 2008 I realized how meaningful the holiday really can be. Not just shopping for him and watching him unwrap the gifts and play with the wrapping paper and throw the gifts aside. I discovered how truly magical it is that he is here. That my husband and I created this little lifeform and that because of us and our dear families this child will have many years of traditions. The yummy scents of Christmas breakfast, watching Christmas movies, opening gifts, time with his great grandparents, and just being with each other. I get a genuine sense of warmth at the notion of watching him grow as each Christmas passes. So to me, the holiday is about my sweet little boy, Spencer Daniel.

I'd say "magic".

I don't know how to explain that, but the ensemble of: snow, Christmas lights, family, music, joy, get-togethers, hope, eagerness.....it's almost too good to be true.

That's why I'd go for that word!

Hope...

The first thing that comes to my mind with Christmas is hope. I am sure it has to do with the whole religious side of it as I grew up and heard the stories. But it has grown now for me. It represents all that is possible. May sound a little corny, but I always have a feeling that anything is possible at this time of year. The ol' Christmas miracle, somebodies husband/wife/son/daughter comes home from the war after being thought lost. Somebody walks away from an accident that should have been fatal. At this time of year the possibilities are endless. :)
