I haven't had a really good rant in a while, and I figured I'm due.
What is the problem with the networks? Can they not go more than 11 minutes without a commercial? I can't watch a movie that isn't dvr'd or on demand because I'm just fed up with commercials. I don't want to buy a new car or get a payday cash advance. I don't need to call the General for car insurance and I don't need to wear my pajamas while going to college from home. I'm not against advertisement completely (just most of it). Tastefully done and in moderation it's an absolute necessity to the networks and I understand that they have to make their money too.
So here's my biggest problem with commercials....If they are going to interuupt programming for these so regularly how about if they play the shows I want them to at least??? DO YOU HEAR ME SYFY????? I'm sick of your crap shows and then following them with a commercial every 7-11 minutes. The only plus is that I'm not into the show, so it's not taking away that much. I'm one of those dummies that keeps thinking that if I only watch for a few more minutes the show will get better. Like the guy is going to magically learn how to act about 45 minutes into the program. Or the graphics will suddenly change to something bordering on good.
I've decided that from now on, maybe the best idea is netflix and on demand. I can watch sliders all I want (first 3 seasons only). Stargate and Enterprise...The only time I look forward to the commercials are in early Feb. let's say around the 7th when the Super Bowl is on. They have the best commercials in the states. Other than that, when I need pimple cream (don't have pimples) or a new tube of toothpaste, or a 12 pack of beer I'll just run to the store. I don't need the constant irritating reminder from some guy or gal on the idiot box. The fact that I'm spending that much time in front of the dang thing should be proof enough that my brain cells aren't exactly firing on all cylinders.
This brings me to my question ( I seem to have lots of them lately)...What's the lamest commercial you have seen lately? I'm sure you guys will have something good for me.
Oh yeah I do like the real men of genius commercials on the radio :)

NO
That's the thing about commercials. It's not about the shows themselves but more so how many commercials the networks can sell. They'll jam as many commercials as they can into shows.
Take the 11p news for example. They run it till 11:35 so they can jam a few more commercials in for those trying to tune into the late night shows.
Thank god for my DVRs. I never watch anything live. I always wait at least 15 minutes before starting anything live including football games. Commercials are the bane of my existence.
HAHAHAHAA I LOATHE commercials which is why I DVR most everything and yea SyFy is awful... I mean I wanna watch 13 min of Ghost Hunters without a commercial marathon.
I watch LOGO (get network) bc they are rerunning Buffy. They have the funniest commercial for a penis pump. No Lie. I wish I was lying.
The bottom line is that these networks don't care about the little people sitting in front of their television set.... They want to make the most profit, all of the time....
The only reason the networks want to air quality programming, is to lure the masses in front of their televisions, because they know that the more eyes they can get on a commercial = the more money they can charge to promoter for airing that commercial.
All I can say is that the man who invented the DVR deserves a Nobel Peace Prize....
Commercials really are a bother when watching movies on TV. I watched the Sound of Music during the holidays and it lasted 4 hours, so...!
The worst commercial yet has to be the one about cat food. There's this guy who's supposed to be a cat and acts like a cat and he's all mad at his owner because she didn't buy a particular food! I don't know if it runs in the US, but if not, pray that it doesn't!
I can't believe how stupid it is! The only commercial I like is the one from Pillsbury because I think the mascot's really cute. :P
Joe- forgot all about those dumb viagra commercials...and just as good are those existenz ones..they play them at like 4 in the afternoon.
Ian- yeah you are right..they just push more and more product lines into the face of the viewers..DVR FTW!!
Lisa Marie..don't know what LOGO is but i liked buffy as well
AS- you and Ian are on the same wavelength..I totally agree.
Sarah- I haven't seen that commercial you are talking about and I'm thinking I don't want to :)
"I'm one of those dummies that keeps thinking that if I only watch for a few more minutes the show will get better" -- You're not alone! That's me as well. I DVR most everything, or pause it and walk away to do chores then come back when I can FF through most of the commercials.
I can't pick the lamest commercial... most are pretty lame, but I hate the commercial for the female personal trimmer, where every shrubbery the women walks by changes shape to match the shape of... well, you know...
I love real men of genius, and the most interesting man in the world... those are awesome, but they still don't hold a candle to Joe Isuzu...
Oh wait - I hate the Girls Gone Wild commercials most of all. Hands down. Watch Comedy Central on a Friday or Saturday night and every 5 minutes you get bombarded with them.
Also, since I DVR, I have learned that I hit the 30-second FF button usually 4x during the first couple of commercial breaks, then 6x during the middle of the show, and up to 8x near the end... that's FOUR MINUTES of commercials at one time... RIDICULOUS!
LOGO is the Gay and Les network. They are rerunning Buffy!!! yayayayayayayayay! I guess the show is G/L friendly bc of Willow and Tara. Anyway I am a Buffy freak and they showed "Once More With Feeling" the other day:) The commercials though, whoah they are risque to say the least
I hear you on this post!! I have essentially given up on television and only watch DVDs.
Ok so the WORST commercial ever:
One night a little while ago the show Cheaters was on. Since I was too lazy to change the channel, I glassy-eyed watched the stupid show. They have their own commercials that are attached to the show. What for you ask? A love line for people who have been cheated on. "Do you want to meet faithful singles? Call 1-800-NO-CHEAT" Or something like that.
So very bad.
